Day 10: An EASY Way To Assess Web 2.0 Properties There First
________________________________________
Hi there 30 Day Challengers,

Upon listening to Ed's video I thought I would 'give it a crack' at simplifying this step of the process.

As it is important - in that it will tell you if your job is going to be that much harder or not.

Now first up I'll take the stance of a more experienced Internet Marketer with this Strategy:

If that Marketer saw that the first page of the listings were littered with Web 2.0 urls (domains) then they are highly likely to NOT go into that market - as someone has already got in there using this strategy.

That marketer would also be assessing how Optimized they are and if there were any real gaps.

OK then

YOU reading this may well not be that experienced Internet Marketer.

That's OK

There is actually a really EASY way to do this.

How can I say this?

Because I have used this easy way - from not knowing squiddly do da whoopty bop about it - to taking it on board and then having success because of this.

SO THE SUPER SIMPLE METHOD IS:

Stage One

1. Focus on the first 10 listings of your search returns on the left hand side.

2. Look at the url's/domains. How many of the following do you see already there? How many out of 10, have a domain name that includes any of these words:

a) Squidoo
b) Hubpages
c) Tumblr
d) Netscape
e) Ezinearticles
f) Myspace
g) Youtube
h) Ehow
j) USfreeads
k) Zimbio

If no - YOU ARE HOME FREE - Get Ready To Rumble!!

3. Where are they on the page? Are they in the first 5 even?

Observe - Don't Judge

Stage Two - Are Those Web 2.0 Sites Optimized for the Same keyword as yours that you will be seeking to be ranked for?

If the answer to this is YES - then suggest it's a no go - someone's got their first and are doing a great job.

BUT

They may be there, and not optimized. Fingers, eyes, arms and legs crossed that is the case!

So:

1. Is the keyword phrase in the title?
2. Is the keyword phrase in the body of the listing?
3. Is the keyword phrase the Url/Domain?

If yes to all three - on a basic level (advanced people - please note I said basic ) it's optimized in our terms - so refer to above comment.

What is an easy way to tell if the keyword phrase is in any or all of these three places?

It appears bolded.
If its a no in any of these areas - glimmer of sunshine, might be worth a crack - YAY!

So you have done Stage One and Two

1. How many Web 2.0 properties are there?
2. How optimized is it based on the 3 criteria above?

Now - you may still want to go ahead - that's your call. This is a basic version of the process a more experienced IMer would take to assess the viability of this keyword, that you are ideally seeking to be well listed for.

Stage Three For Girly-Swots

You can stop at Stages One & Two, in the most basic terms you have enough to go on.

If you want to venture a bit further - at your own risk of confusion

We are still focused on the first 1-10 listings on your page view.

1. Look at the Page rank section (PR) is there a number or a blank?

If there is a number - that means simplistically (very) that it will be harder job to get good listings (aiming for the top 10 - position 1-2 ideally) as they have page rank, and you wont as yet.

2. Look at Y!Page Links (8 along) - does it have any back links? If so how many?

(these page links are called back-links)

Again this gives you an idea of how much they are working this keyword. If it has none - that's great for you. If it has 100's or 1000's not so.

Now this is not a section where you ask - well it has 5 or X backlinks, so is that good or bad?

I want to keep it simple ,and you only go to this level to observe and assess it as simplistically as I am doing above.

What this is telling you is how many back-links it has - so again how much they are working this keyword.

Now experienced SEO people will tell you even deeper ways to assess it (they most prob are reading this and cringing - lol) - I want to keep this 101 for you and still get the outcome you need - to know if this is optimized already or not.

So what do I mean by Optimized?

That they are doing a fair, good to great job already with leveraging the keyword to please Google and get good page placement ie: on the first page - aiming for Number One position.

As YOU want to get onto the first page and aim for number One.

So YOU need to find out what challenges you might face to achieve that.

So it is like the poor exhausted knight that has battled with Word Tracker and Google Trends - made them friends rather than foe. Saw that Google Competitive Searches could return a positive result...and then you face...

The Web 2.0 Dragon...da da da da....

Well knights of the 30DC Table - once you assess this and give it the Green Light...

You're in the Castle and now can get busy furnishing it so that your new influential friend Google wants to visit.

Best wishes to you all.

The thirty day challenge is under way and we have all received a great deal of quality information up until this date.
The forum is wonderful place with a lot of helpful people to guide us with any problems and situations that we might have.
We are all learning about this web.20 and what a major impact it is having on the way we do marketing on the internet compared to one year ago.
At present the servers have not been able to keep up with all of the traffic load such as the interest that the 30DC has created.
I am in a great team (Dream Team)and we will be watching out for each other as we proceed to a successful conclusion.
